According to Delcie's sister-in-law, Millie Hopson Williams, wife of Chester Williams, Delcie and J W slipped off and got married. They went to the home of Emory Williams, a local preacher. He was in the cotton field working. It was told that Rev. Williams married them in the middle of that cotton field. Family: F20

According to Millie Hopson Williams (Ernest's sister), her husband, Chester A. Williams helped Ernest and Josephine slip off and get married. One night the Williams' had a little party at their house to distract everyone so they could slip off without being noticed. The Williams' had a record player and played records so everyone could dance. While the party was going on, Chester took the couple to a preachers house in San Augustine, where they were married. Family: F105

According to my Grandparents, Chester A. Williams and Millie Hopson Williams, Sarah Barnes and Edwin "Lish" Dickerson were never married. But that they had three children out of wedlock, Anna Victoria, Lucinda Wildea and Rebecca. Some say that John "Marsh" Dickerson, Lish's brother, was the father and even have them married. No marriage record for the two have ever been found. At the time the girls were born, Marsh Dickerson was married, living with and having children with his wife, Nancy Ann Voshay. When my grandmother's mother, Rebecca Jane Carrell, died about 1 month after giving birth to her last child, the widowed husband and his children moved in with Wildy and Williams Carrell, Rebecca's parents. My grandmother said it was common knowledge that Lish Dickerson was Wildy's father. Family: F82

According to the http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txsanaug/index.htm under marriage records, they transcribed a marriage record for B.F. Dickerson and Mary B. Lewis dated 12-30-1875 from Book 2, page 226. This date is very close to the record found in the book "Early Marriage in San Augustine County, Texas 1837-1880". One is obviously the actual marriage date and the other is either the date the license was applied for or the date it was filed. Family: F85

Census record of 1930 says they were married when he was 30 and she was 14. Family: F179

Harriet worked for the Fairchild family and became pregnant, it is said by Mr. Fairchild.

John Townsend had two families going at one time. His first wife was Zaney ? and they had at least 7 kids, but at some point in time, he set up house with Catherine ?. The ages of the youngest children from Zaney and the ages of the oldest from Catherine seem to overlap.

On the Ancestry.com web site and listed in the "Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935" it gives the marriage date for Frances Townsend and George Washington Magee as Dec. 29, 1849 in Rankin County, Mississippi. Sometimes the records are transcribed incorrectly listing the date the marriage license was filed for OR the date it was recorded into the county court records as the marriage date. But the approximate time frame is the same. Family: F253

Susan Lakey listed her marriate date as April 5, 1877 on her CSA pension application. Family: F599

In 1870 Moses Bass and family are living in Calcasieu Parish Louisiana. Their race is listed as mulatto and his age is incorrectly listed as 38. Moses BASS

Due to the fact that his wife, Frances Boren is listed in the 1870 census as a "widow" it is safe to assume that William Boren is deceased.

There's an Earl listed as a son to Steve and Dovie Bryant in the 1910 San Augustine County,Texas census. He is listed as 2 years old. This is in contrast to the cemetery record of Earl Bryant, son of Steve and Dovie. Earl F. BRYAN

According to M.H. Williams, John Bryan was called "Moon Eyed John" because he had good night vision. John BRYAN

First listed in San Augustine County, Texas 1870

Name "Carrell" originated in Northern Ireland.

It is speculated that the variation "Carrell" was of Presbyterian faith and the variation of "Carroll" was of Roman Catholic.

William and Wildy were living in Lufkin, Texas at the time of their death. They were both killed when a log truck ran into them. They were in Nacogdoches County, Texas when the accident happened. William was 3 weeks shy of being 91 years old and Wildy had just turned 92. Both were in excellent health. William Washington CARRELL, Jr.

"PINSON" was her 1st Husbands name. I don't know what her Maiden name was, yet. CATHERINE

Listed in the 1850 census of San Augustine County, Texas living with this family is a 18 year old male named William Dally. He is listed as being born in Mississippi. This is probably Lavisay's brother. Lavisay DALLEY

In 1900 Ras B. DeHart is living in the home of William Burns in Smith County, Mississippi. He is listed as house labor. In a personal interview this researcher had with Leona DeHart Ziborowski, she explained that her father, Rasberry, worked many years for this family. Rasberry DEHART

Thomas DeHart
THOMAS DeHART April 23, 1917 - Dec. 13, 2008 Thomas DeHart, beloved husband of Dr. Ruth S. DeHart for almost 65 years, passed away on December 13, 2008, after an extended illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth. He leaves a cherished daughter, Barbara J. DeHart, sisters: Doris Hemsworth, Mae Joubert, and Leona Zaboroski, brothers: Dalton DeHart and Delton DeHart, various nieces and nephews, and many dear and greatly loved friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Thomas was born and reared the eldest of eleven children on a farm in Bessmay, Texas, and he graduated from Buna High School. As a young man, he left home to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps, helping to create parks throughout Texas and Colorado. Later, he joined the Army Air Force during World War II. He primarily served in England with the 8th Air Force Photo Technical Squadron. After the war in Europe, he was honorably discharged from service with the rank of Captain. He and his wife moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked until retirement for the Continental Can Company. Thomas was an unassuming man with a gift of knowing how things work. His many acquaintances can testify that he could fix anything and was always glad to oblige a friend in need. His artistic nature expressed itself in his creation of beautifully designed jewelry and carvings. A long-standing member of the Houston Gem and Mineral Society, Tom was in charge of the lapidary section of that organization for several years. Later in life, he was responsible for the wood shop at University Place Retirement Community, where he and Ruth lived for almost two decades. It was there that he became interested in marquetry and created many beautiful wooden works of art. A memorial service and reception in honor of Thomas DeHart will be held on December 30, 2008, at 2:00 P.M., in the Meeting Room at University Place Retirement Community, 7480 Beechnut, Houston, Texas, 77074.

Edwin had three daughters by Sarah Green Barnes, Anna Victoria, Lucinda Wildea, and Rebecca. Edwin and Sarah never married each other. Edward Elisha DICKERSON

In the 1870 US Federal census of San Augustine County, Texas, Elizabeth is listed in the household of John Harvey who is the husband of Lucy (Barnes Dickerson). Due to her age, 8 and the marriage date of John and Lucy, its not likely she was the daughter of John Harvey but the daughter of Lucy's first husband, William Leroy Dickerson. Elizabeth DICKERSON

Its possible that J.W. was his given name but when he registered for the draft, he had to pick actual names to go with the initials. It was said he picked James Williams. His brother-in-law, MH Williams had to do the same thing. J.W. DICKERSON

Buried at the Dickerson Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas
Inscription on marker, "Life's work well done, he rests in peace."

Military service: According to "San Augustine County, Texas in The Civil War" by Kathryn Davis, Linda Devereaux and Carolyn Ericson:
"John Marshall Dickerson served 3 1/2 years, County C, Gibbs' Company, Speight's Battalion, transferred to Gillespie's Regiment of Infantry. The War Dept. shows he enlisted 9-26-1861 and served until January, 1865. Returns show he transferred to the 25th Reg. He appears as private on a regimental return for 4-1865 for County F, 24th and 25th Consolidated texas Cavalry with remarks showing 4-29-1865 at Camp Lubbock. Witness says January 1865 to hospital at Hempstead, until March 1865, then to Houston. About 4/1/1865 sent home on account of illness."

In May 2003, I interviewed my Great Uncle M.H. Williams, the grandson of Sarah "Sallie" Dickerson Evans. Uncle M.H. reported that she was dark complected. He felt that she was considered to be a good woman. He remembered that she liked to bake tea cakes and stated that when she would visit, she would back several batches for the family.

Due to the age (36) of the person named Daniel M. Evans that is listed as head of household in the 1850 Harris County, Texas census, I am saying the birth year is about 1814. Although the name is not listed as James or Jim Evans, the rest of the family is a perfect match. I am not sure why the head of household's name is showing up as Daniel M. Evans. And there is still the daughter Sarah to be born. Her birth date is Feb. 21, 1851. It is possible that Jim Evans has already died and his wife and children has moved in with a brother or relative of Jim's in 1850 and Sarah was already pregnant or she is the daughter of Daniel and Sarah. But I do not think this is the case.
